How to order a quote for your custom casting project – Part – 3

By vr foundries on 10-July-2020

The final part of the blog will cover more factors to identify and understand before you order a quote for your next custom casting project.

  • Inspection Requirements:
You need to understand industry standard specifications including ASTM offering the required tools to establish inspection criteria. Most mechanical testing is performed on representative test bars. Besides, non-standard inspection may increase casting cost.
  • Production & Delivery Schedules:
Lead-time is the expected time interval between the initiation and completion of a production process. The delivery time is the time needed to ship and deliver the finished castings. The RFQ should communicate key dates, deadlines and milestones. Custom-casting projects on a strict deadline can be hurried, but you need to consider the added cost of using labour overtime and multiple patterns.
  • Secondary Processing:
A good understanding of the next-to-next processing and final use of the casting is important, and also properly communicated. We help finish secondary processing operations that increase the casting’s direct casting, but it’ll lower the overall cost of the finished product by avoiding additional processing by various other sources. VR Foundries carries out heat treatment, machining, assembly, and coating, in addition to other processes. Unless otherwise mentioned, castings are covered with un-machined as-cast surfaces.
  • Packaging:
We package our finished products to protect them from damage during storage and transport. Specific requests including minimum/maximum package sizes and special loading/unloading demands will incur additional costs to the shipping process, and must be updated in advance. You need to understand the factors so far discussed completely and how they impact the cost and function of your project by openly talking with the foundry.  Our casting team will work closely with you to form clear product development goals and help you minimise costs in the best possible way.
