Why do we still rely on Iron casting foundry? – Part 1
By admin on 10-February-2022
Before we understand why we need to depend on an iron casting foundry, it is important to know that metal casting involves the pouring of molten metal into a mould comprising a cavity of the required shape to create a metal product. This process is followed by the removal of the casting from the mould with the excess metal removed through the process of grinding, shot blasting or welding process. The product may then go through a number of processes including polishing, heat treatment, finishing or surface coating. The casting techniques mentioned here are some variations seen earlier in the blog.
The various techniques have been designed to tackle particular specific casting issues or to optimize the process for particular metals, scales, product designs or other operational factors like automation. The casting processes mentioned here utilize a mould either temporary or permanent a ‘negative’ of the required shape. Upon the pouring of the metal and its solidification, it helps create the ‘positive’ shape of whatever product one is looking for. There are a number of processes that may differ in the different stages that are needed to create the final casting product.
The simplest technique, if you take the number of stages used into account, is Die casting. This process makes use of a permanent mould to create the desired casting. There are other processes including shell casting and sand moulding that make use of a temporary mould which is usually created by making use of a permanent pattern or sometimes die. Lost foam casting and investment casting techniques make use of a temporary mould that is developed about a temporary pattern. In the case of repetitive work, patterns can be produced in the form of a permanent die or mould. Therefore, it is important to understand the different types of patterns and moulds employed in some of the major casting techniques more about it in the following blog. We are VR Foundries, one of the leading iron casting foundries in India, which has earned a reputation as one of the leading iron casting manufacturers and grey iron casting manufacturers in the country over several decades.
